CLASS SCHEDULE - Fall 2010
(Subject to change)

Every Friday 7:00pm - 9:00pm

17 September – No Cost-this class only!
This introductory class, which is free, is unlike anything you have ever experienced in your educational training. It focuses on the history, culture, and accomplishments of Black people around the world, but from a perspective different from the traditional approach.

24 September
Dr. Asa Hilliard was one of the most brilliant Afrikan world scholars we have ever had. He delivers a stellar lecture on how Afrikan world scholars have been attacked by conservative elements that do not want a non-Western view of the world exposed. We will also look at the history of the soul of the Ashanti nation in Ghana: The Golden Stool.

1 October

Dr. Joy DeGruy Leary, author of the now famous book, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, gives us a dynamic demonstration of her teaching and analytical skills about the intricacies of race, its history and how it affects us today.

15 October

Mahalia Jackson unquestionably remains the queen of gospel music, but her history and affect on the Civil Rights Movement is basically unknown. She was one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's. closest allies. We will also observe how Jackie Robinson's son, David Robinson, made the ultimate commitment in East Afrika development.

22 October

One of the unknown stories in the American Afrikan community is our comedic legacy. For the first time we will learn about the history of Black Comedy.

29 October

Paul Robeson was a legitimate American hero, and an international artist. His uncompromising stance against oppression, support for Afrikan independence, and his socialist philosophy put him in a direct collision course with the American government, which ultimately ruined his career, but not his spirit. We will also take a brief look at the Wodaabe & Tuareg cultures of Niger.

5 November

Ladysmith Black Mambazo is the most popular Afrikan singing group in the world. Their historical development and their contributions to the ending of apartheid are not well known until now. We will also learn about The Lost Generations, Australian Afrikan children taken from their families from 1885 and 1969.

12 November

For the first time in this class, we will look at the perspective of the Black man on the Black woman. Expect some surprises here.

19 November

Afrikan scholars in the Nile Valley: Yosef ben-Jochannan, John Henrik Clark, Asa Hilliard, Leonard Jeffries Jr., Na'im Akbar, and others: the supreme Nile Valley lesson.

26 November
NO CLASS (Thanksgiving Weekend)

3 December

Open for late developments.
